M35 size 66/59 Double Decal Field Police Helmet Reissued to Waffen SS

Selling Price: $415

This M35 helmet bears the NS factory mark, indicating the helmet was produced by Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke AG.  The helmet has been restored to a smooth textured pale bluish-green “apple green”. This shade of apple green is almost the standard with helmets produced by Nickelwerke AG in the 1938 early 1939 time period. The helmet was decaled with a set of pre-war “un-bordered” police decal. Strangely the police decals have had a set of SS decals placed over them. The SS decals show considerable wear and the original Police decal and Party shield can be seen peaking though the 2nd pattern SS and Party Shield decal. This configuration was based on an M35 original helmet found in the former Eastern front. The explanation for the double set of decals is probably a result of the helmet being re-issued to member of SS or possible the wearing being absorbed directly into the SS. Late in the war, especially on the Eastern front it became common to absorb Field Police unit into SS units as both were usually under-strength.

The helmet has been correctly fit with a high quality reinforced aluminum liner with the squared chinstrap bails. The leather has been aged to reflect the overall condition of the helmet. The helmet has also been fit with brass alloy split pins, which are generally found on helmet produced before 1940. The reproduction chinstrap is dated 1939 with an R Larson maker mark. Interestingly the R Larson firm is one of the known chinstrap makers, to sub-contract with the Field Police. Most original Field Police helmets made before 1940 are found with R Larson manufactured chinstraps. The aluminum hardware shows considerable wear. The leather has been darkened from heavily use.

The apple green finish is worn and chipped in some places; however the helmet looks well taken care of.  The exposed steel has browned with age. The helmet has also fit stamped with a 1939 dated ink dome stamp. The helmet also comes with a rubber foliage loop.

M17 Austo-Hungarian SS-Verfügungstruppe Re-issue, size 66

W/ Original Re-built Liner

Selling Price: $625

This is a really interesting Austro-Hungarian M17 helmet. The helmet has had the WWI chinstrap bails, and bail holders removed and replaced with a steel plug. During the 1920s and 1930s the Germans acquired a large supply of Austrian M17s. Many of these had their chinstrap bails removed to better accommodate M31 liners. This appears to be one such helmet.

The helmet has been restored to look like a mid-1930s SS-VT or SS-TV helmet. This is the sort of helmet that would have been worn commonly in early campaigns that SS units took part in, such as the Czechoslovakia and Poland. Transitional helmets such as this continued to be worn in rear areas even after 1940.

The helmet has been painted a smooth field gray typical with helmets from the mid 1930s.  The paint and decals have been heavily aged to appear original.

The liner is dated 1939 and is the pre-war aluminum re-enforced M31 version. Although the liner is original the leather is new, however it has been fitted with an original wool pad.  The leather has been aged to appear original.

Although no chinstrap is shown in the photos, I will throw in your choice of M27 or M35 chinstraps free of charge.

This restored helmet looks and feels original. It certainly will not disappoint.
