World War I Allied Gallery

Allied helmets of the First World War vary greatly in texture and color. The following colors are currently available:

American Army olive drab

American Marine Corp green

British Army olive drab

French Horizon blue

Colonial French mustard

Imperial Russian olive drab

While Adrian helmet were painted with a smooth finish, American and British helmets of this era were textured with a wide variety of agents to reduce glare. Saw dust, aluminum oxide powder, and crusted cork were all used. Generally American helmet feature an extremely rough textured finish while British helmet are more lightly textured. M15 French Adrian helmet with Zouave/Tirailleur insignia
This smooth Horizon Blue finish was seen on French Metropolitan solider's helmets from 1915 until the of the war. Colonial troops wore this color until 1916 when they switch to a dark mustard color. The liner on this helmet is the 1st pattern. This is the sort of helmet that would have been seen on North African colonial troops fighting at Verdun.

Rare Imperial Russian Adrian helmet. These were produced in France and shipped to Tsarist Russia durring WWI
